Bihar Foundation Welcomes Bihar Government's Migrant Labourer Accident Grant Scheme

Mar31,2026 | Jagrati Lahar Bureau | Chandigarh

The Punjab and Chandigarh Chapter of Bihar Foundation has hailed the people-centric changes made by the Bihar Government in the "Bihar State Migrant Labourer Accident Grant Scheme" for unorganized sector migrant workers working outside the state and abroad, calling it a milestone in labor welfare.

Dr. Rupesh Kumar Singh, Chairman of the Bihar Foundation (Punjab & Chandigarh Chapter), welcomed the provisions of the scheme and expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary, Industries Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, and the State Industries Secretary Kundan Kumar for this initiative. He stated that this scheme by the Bihar Government provides a social security shield to millions of workers from Bihar who are working under challenging conditions in other states and abroad. It is noteworthy that the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary, also serves as the Chairman of the Bihar Foundation.

Under this welfare scheme of the Bihar Government, native workers of the state aged between 18 and 65 years, who are employed in the unorganized sector in other states or abroad, are eligible. In the event of death due to an accident, a grant of Rs. 4,00,000 is provided to the dependents. Furthermore, there is a provision for Rs. 1,00,000 in cases of total permanent disability (such as loss of both eyes or two limbs) and Rs. 50,000 for permanent partial disability (such as loss of one eye or one limb).

In the unfortunate event of a migrant worker's death outside the state, the entire expense of transporting the mortal remains to their ancestral home will be borne by the Bihar Government. To avail of the benefits, interested workers or their dependents can apply completely online through the portal https://serviceonline.bihar.gov.in/. The scheme aims to process and settle these applications within 44 days from the date of application.

Dr. Rupesh Kumar Singh, Chairman of the Bihar Foundation (Punjab & Chandigarh Chapter), said, "This step by the Bihar Government is highly commendable and humane. A large number of our brothers and sisters from Bihar are contributing to sectors like construction, agriculture, and other unorganized fields in regions like Punjab and Chandigarh. In case of any untoward incident during work, this scheme not only provides financial support but also instills a sense of confidence that the State Government stands by its citizens in every situation."

He further added, "The decision of the government to bear the expenses of transporting the mortal remains home with dignity is particularly sensitive and thoughtful. We appeal to all Bihari migrant workers living in Punjab and Chandigarh to become aware of this scheme and utilize the online platform when needed. Bihar Foundation remains ever-ready to assist the workers."
