Says slogans inside the Gurdwara premises are also against Sikh traditions; appeals to protesting youth to maintain religious decorum
Mullanpur Dakha, October 12: Senior Akali Dal Waris Punjab De leader and Dakha MLA Sardar Manpreet Singh Ayali has strongly condemned what he described as a violation of Sikh maryada during Delhi Police action at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi.
Ayali said that Delhi Police personnel allegedly entering the Gurdwara premises bareheaded and wearing shoes while preventing and detaining youths protesting at Jantar Mantar over their demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was contrary to Sikh religious traditions. He said the photographs of the incident circulating on social media had caused concern among members of the Sikh community.
Questioning the silence of the Union Home Ministry, Ayali said the authorities concerned should clarify their position on the incident, particularly as Delhi Police functions under the Union Home Ministry.
He emphasised that Gurdwaras have historically served as places of refuge for the oppressed and those in need. According to him, it is the responsibility of the Sikh community to protect the life and property of anyone seeking shelter at a Gurdwara while respecting its religious code of conduct. Providing accommodation, langar and prasad to the needy is an integral part of Sikh traditions, he added.
At the same time, Ayali said raising slogans within Gurdwara premises was also contrary to Sikh traditions and maryada. He appealed to the protesting youths not to act impulsively or violate the sanctity of religious places.
He added that young people raising their voices to protect their rights and interests should express their concerns with restraint and responsibility while respecting the religious traditions of the community.
