“A mandate allegedly secured through ‘vote theft’ before the people’s verdict cannot be in the national interest.”
CHANDIGARH () Akali Dal "Waris Punjab De" senior leader and Dakha MLA Sardar Manpreet Singh Ayali stated that growing questions over the credibility and functioning of the Election Commission have created an atmosphere of political distrust in the country, which is not in the national interest under any circumstances. He said a more pressing concern was whether the voting rights of eligible Indian citizens were being safeguarded during the revision of electoral rolls. He added that a lack of consensus within the Election Commission, even after differences emerged over internal decisions, posed a serious threat to the country’s democratic framework.
Sardar Ayali pointed out that while hearing a petition regarding serious irregularities in the electoral rolls, a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant remarked that the apex court had not approved any modifications or revised versions of Form-6. The bench further observed that it would examine who altered Form-6 and on what grounds. In stark contrast, the Election Commission had issued a statement on September 26 claiming that the declaration attached to Form-6 during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) had been approved by the Supreme Court.
Sardar Ayali further said that credible reports had appeared in the national media indicating that more than 13 crore names had been removed from the draft electoral rolls across 30 states and Union Territories. He also pointed out that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections to certain important decisions and administrative actions in recent months.
Demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Sardar Ayali described his actions as a deliberate disregard for legal and constitutional duties, an abuse of power, and conduct that severely damages the credibility of Indian democracy. Invoking "proved misbehavior," Sardar Ayali demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from his post under Article 324(5) of the Constitution of India.
In his statement, Sardar Ayali said that allegations of irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), along with cases linked to alleged vote theft, had raised serious questions about the Election Commission’s credibility.
He said, “The democratic system is the soul of our nation. If the soul of democracy is undermined through the alleged misuse of official authority, it would be tantamount to striking at the very soul of the country.”
Sardar Ayali further asserted that people across the country were demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, but their concerns were being ignored. He said he wholeheartedly supported the voice of the people and stood firmly with their demand for accountability.
Sardar Manpreet Singh Ayali clearly stated that the Election Commission’s argument before the Delhi High Court, linking the registration of Akali Dal “Waris Punjab De” to a threat to national security, has proven to be completely irrelevant.
Sardar Ayali said that the registration of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De has been deliberately obstructed and delayed due to political motives. He further stated that it has now become clear that the Election Commission is functioning entirely as the political wing of the BJP.
