Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon has sought clarification from the Aam Aadmi Party over its protest outside the Election Commission’s office against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He questioned the purpose of the protest, stating that the SIR process in Punjab was being carried out by the state government.
Dhillon referred to assurances by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal that no eligible voter’s name would be removed from the electoral rolls. He said the party’s concerns and the reasons behind its protest needed further clarification.
The BJP leader also highlighted issues such as pending Dearness Allowance (DA), drug abuse, gangster-related activities, law and order, and Punjab’s rising debt. He urged the state government to address these concerns while continuing its work on governance and public welfare.
Raises Questions About Electoral Roll Verification
Referring to a 2015 video of Arvind Kejriwal, Dhillon recalled that the AAP leader had previously raised concerns about duplicate voters in Delhi and had reportedly submitted a list to the Election Commission. He sought clarity on the party’s present stand on electoral roll verification.
Dhillon also referred to concerns surrounding municipal elections in Punjab, including allegations of irregularities and intimidation of opposition candidates. Citing court orders concerning elections in Patiala, Moga and Bagha Purana, he called for attention to transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
The BJP president said electoral transparency, effective governance and public accountability should remain important priorities. The issue has led to a political exchange between the BJP and AAP, with both parties presenting their positions on the SIR process and related concerns.
