Rahul Gandhi Speaks To Mohanjit, Assures Support; Congress Announces Protests

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke over the phone with Mohanjit, who has alleged that he was subjected to police excesses in Punjab. The call was facilitated by Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring during his meeting with Mohanjit.
According to Warring, Rahul Gandhi expressed concern over the matter and assured Mohanjit of his support. He also asked the Punjab Congress to extend assistance to him in seeking justice.
Warring said the Congress would hold peaceful protests across Punjab and display black flags during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s public programmes to register its opposition and express solidarity with Mohanjit.
The Punjab Congress president also called for an impartial inquiry into the allegations and sought appropriate action against the police officials concerned if found responsible. He said the party may also approach the Governor to seek action in the matter.
Warring urged the state government to ensure a transparent investigation and take action in accordance with the findings.
