(Says protesting students were not terrorists, they should be treated with empathy)
(Inspects Dhussi bandh in Shahpur and Sultanpur Lodhi constituencies, says AAP govt had not learnt any lesson from last year’s devastating floods. Assures help to farmers for flood protection works)
Shahkot/ Sultanpur Lodhi, July 23 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today condemned Delhi Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu’s decision to impose preventive detention under the National Security Act (NSA) for a period of three months in the national capital.
Talking to newsmen while inspecting the Dhussi bandh in both Shahkot and Sultanpur Lodhi constituencies, the SAD president said “I want to make it clear. This is no way to deal with a peaceful movement. Protesting students are our children and not terrorists. I appeal to the Lt Governor to withdraw this order immediately. Imposing the NSA is not the answer to the student protest. Showing empathy is. Let us win their hearts with love and shun confrontation”.
Asserting that the centre should work to make systematic improvements in the national testing organizations, Mr Sukhbir Badal said “students are anguished that the national level tests are rigged against them and that unscrupulous persons are selected at the cost of meritorious students. Suppressing this sentiment by imposing NSA will result in long imprisonments and destroy the careers of our students”.
