Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Saturday emphasized the need to adopt the ideology of Satguru Ram Singh Ji to make Punjab a drug-free state.

During his first visit to Sri Bhaini Sahib, the Governor paid obeisance and addressed a Gurmat Samagam. He said that the roots of India’s freedom struggle were laid by Satguru Ram Singh Ji, who initiated a movement of non-cooperation against British rule and provided religious, social, and political direction to society.

Highlighting the teachings of Satguru Ram Singh Ji, Kataria said that his principles of truth, non-violence, and civil resistance played a significant role in India’s freedom movement and should serve as the foundation for social reform even today. He recalled the sacrifices of the Kuka martyrs and stated brave revolutionaries fought fearlessly against British rule and laid down their lives for the nation’s freedom. He added that the contribution of Namdhari Sikhs can never be forgotten.

Kataria further mentioned that Satguru Ram Singh Ji followed the path of non-violence shown by the Sikh Gurus and led a complete boycott of British rule and its privileges.

Describing the Namdhari sect as a symbol of simplicity, truthfulness, and humility, the Governor urged people to follow the path shown by the Gurus to achieve spiritual and social upliftment.

During the visit, the Governor also visited the historic Ram Mandir within Sri Bhaini Sahib, where the Kuka movement against British rule began in 1857, and checked a photo exhibition displayed at the site. Later, he visited the Namdhari Gaushala.

Punjab Chief Information Commissioner Inderpal Singh Dhanna and Punjab State Information Commissioner Harpreet Sandhu were also present during the event.

On the occasion, State Information Commissioner Harpreet Sandhu presented a special artwork depicting Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, which was gifted to Governor Kataria by Satguru Uday Singh as a commemorative memento.

Satguru Uday Singh also honoured Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Information Commissioner Inderpal Singh Dhanna, and State Information Commissioner Harpreet Sandhu with siropas (robes of honour).
