Continuing his engagements in the national capital, newly appointed Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon on Saturday called on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her office in New Delhi. Dhillon was accompanied by Delhi Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forest and Wildlife, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

During the meeting, Dhillon shared his vision for building a prosperous, harmonious and well-governed Punjab. He said that the governance model of Maharaja Ranjit Singh remains an enduring source of inspiration and an ideal benchmark for Punjab's future. Highlighting his commitment to the state's rich legacy, Dhillon informed the Chief Minister that he has installed a portrait of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in his office as a symbol of his dedication to the Maharaja's principles of justice, inclusiveness and good governance.

“The Punjab of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a Punjab where every farmer was prosperous, every faith was respected and no Punjabi lived under fear. We are committed to creating such a Punjab where every citizen enjoys equality, opportunity and dignity,” Dhillon said.

Dhillon also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for the Delhi Government's decision to simplify and relax the eligibility criteria for compassionate government jobs for dependents of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He particularly appreciated the relaxation in the upper age limit and educational requirements, as well as the provision allowing a next-generation family member to be nominated for employment where the primary dependent has crossed the age of 50 years.

Describing the decision as a significant step towards delivering long-awaited justice and dignity to affected families, Dhillon said it reflects the BJP's commitment to addressing historical grievances with sensitivity and compassion.
