Under the leadership of Dr. Ashish Chawla, the Food Safety Team carried out a special inspection drive against food business operators selling food supplements and nutraceutical products across the district. The primary objective of the campaign was to ensure safe and standard-quality food products for the public and to curb the sale of substandard or suspicious products.
During the inspection, the team thoroughly checked shops and establishments engaged in the sale of food supplements and nutraceutical products. Two samples were collected, including Dietary Supplement (Pre-Workout) and Food Supplement (Anabolic Liver Support). In addition, 18 units of Pre-Workout and 21 units of Anabolic Liver Support from the available stock were seized under legal procedure and kept under the custody of the concerned food business operator.
Furthermore, from establishments located at Gill Road, two additional samples of nutraceutical products were collected and sent for laboratory testing.
The Food Safety Team also conducted inspections in the Machhiwara area, where samples of ghee and gram flour were collected from dairies and grocery stores. Similarly, in the Samrala area, samples of vanaspati and muscle mass gainer were also collected.
All collected samples have been sent to the government laboratory for analysis. After receiving the reports, if any product is found to be substandard, misbranded, or unsafe for consumption, strict legal action will be initiated against the concerned food business operators as per the rules of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
Dr. Ashish Chawla stated, “The special checking drive of food supplement and nutraceutical stores in the district will continue regularly to curb elements playing with public health. All food business operators must ensure compliance with food safety standards; otherwise, strict action will be taken as per the law. Providing clean, safe, and quality food products to the public remains the department’s top priority.”
