Punjab Is Not a Trophy, BJP’s Divisive Tactics to Destabilize State Are Shameful: Harjot Bains
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora on Tuesday strongly condemned attempts by opposition parties to blame the Punjab government for the recent blasts reported in Jalandhar and Amritsar. He said such incidents are being misused for political gains and alleged that the BJP has a history of creating fear and division ahead of elections.
Arora stated that across the country, similar patterns have been observed where incidents related to law and order, religion, or security are used to polarize voters before polls. He alleged that such tactics are often orchestrated to create unrest and divide communities for electoral benefits. “Punjab is heading towards elections, and the BJP is rattled by the pro-people work of the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. That is why such conspiracies are being hatched,” he said.
He further pointed out that the responsibility of such incidents lies with the Central Government, especially in light of the expanded jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) from 15 km to 50 km along the international border. Noting that both Amritsar and Jalandhar fall within this range, Arora said accountability rests with central agencies and the BJP-led government at the Centre.
Arora also cautioned against attempts to revive fear and destabilize Punjab by invoking memories of terrorism. He said Punjabis are aware of these “sinister designs” and will not fall prey to divisive politics. “Punjab is a land of communal harmony where seeds of hatred have never taken root, even during the darkest times. Attempts to divide people on religious lines will not succeed here,” he added.
Reaffirming Punjab’s legacy of unity and secularism, Arora urged the BJP and the Central Government to refrain from indulging in such tactics and to respect the state’s social fabric. He emphasized that Punjab’s people will continue to stand united against any attempt to disturb peace and brotherhood.
Punjab Cabinet Ministers Harbhajan Singh ETO, Dr Balbir Singh, and Harjot Singh Bains also targeted the BJP and the Central Government over the recent blasts, asserting that accountability lies with central agencies. They pointed out that the Centre had expanded the BSF’s jurisdiction along the international border from 15 km to 50 km, bringing areas like Amritsar and Jalandhar within its purview. In light of this, they said responsibility for any security lapses squarely rests with the Centre. The ministers further added that the BJP’s attempts to disturb Punjab’s peace for political gains will never succeed, as the people of the state remain united and vigilant against such divisive tactics.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains condemned the BJP’s attempts to destabilize Punjab for political gains, stating that the state is “not a trophy but an emotional identity.” Echoing concerns raised by Aman Arora, Bains said such tactics, aimed at creating fear, unrest, and polarization ahead of elections, are deeply irresponsible and dangerous. He added that Punjab’s legacy is built on immense sacrifices during India’s freedom struggle and cannot be reduced to electoral ambitions. Reacting to claims that the BJP would “win Punjab like Bengal,” Bains termed the remarks shameful and insensitive, asserting that Punjabis will never allow their unity and peace to be disturbed for narrow political interests.
