*They have snatched away women’s rightful 33% reservation; the people of Punjab will respond in the upcoming Assembly elections — Jai Inder Kaur*
*Had the bill been passed, it would have been a strong step toward women’s empowerment — Jai Inder Kaur*
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ludhiana and the BJP Mahila Morcha organized a “Mahila Aakrosh Mashaal Yatra” (Women’s Protest Torch March) in the city to highlight serious issues concerning women. Through this march, voices were raised for women’s safety, dignity, and rights.
On this occasion, BJP Punjab’s Working President Ashwani Sharma, Mahila Morcha State President Bibi Jai Inder Kaur, BJP District President Rajnish Dhiman, and Mahila Morcha District President Sheenu Chugh were specially present.
Ashwani Sharma and Jai Inder Kaur stated that the rising crimes against women and the atmosphere of insecurity in the state are deeply concerning. They alleged that the central government had introduced the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill) in Parliament, but opposition parties did not allow it to pass, which is completely wrong and anti-women. They said that while these parties claim to support women, their actions prove otherwise. By blocking this important bill, they deprived women of their rightful 33% reservation, and the public will respond to this in the upcoming Assembly elections.
They further said that this torch march is an effort to awaken both the Punjab government and the opposition so that women-related issues are taken seriously and concrete steps are implemented.
BJP leaders added that if the Nari Shakti Vandan Act (Women’s Reservation Law) had been passed, it would have been a milestone for women’s empowerment. Other leaders accused the opposition, particularly AAP and Congress, of creating obstacles in implementing this law and misleading women. For information, this law aims to ensure 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. BJP leaders also alleged that the opposition hindered the necessary provisions to implement this law by 2029, exposing their anti-women stance.
Mahila Morcha State President Jai Inder Kaur termed the failure to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill as unfortunate. She said it was a very important bill, and if passed, it would have been a strong step toward women’s empowerment, ensuring women receive their rightful share.
A large number of women workers, BJP supporters, and citizens participated in the torch march. The march started from Ghanta Ghar Chowk, passed through Girja Ghar Chowk and Ghas Mandi Chowk, and concluded at Division No. 3.Several prominent BJP leaders and Mahila Morcha members, including Renu Thapar, Leena Taparia, Reena Jain, Rajeshwari Gosai, Dr. Kanika Jindal, Seema Sharma, Seema Verma, Councillor Poonam Ratra, Bhavneet Kaur, Pallavi Vipin Vinayak, Ruchi Vishal Gulati, Ruby Goryan, Anjali Sharma, Deeksha Batra, Shobha Sharma, Annie Sikka, Anita Sharma, Savita Sharma, Simmi Dheer, Santosh Vij, Rama, Shubhra Sharma, Nidhi Sharma, Sapna Kanwar, Nidhika Dandona, Dr. Vinu Santosh, Aruna Nagi, Hema Chopra, Sarika Chopra, Madam Mona, Jaya Tayal, Sunita Sharma, Neeru Sharma, Saniya Sharma, Renu Rana, and hundreds of other women workers participated in the march.
