Mp Manish Tewari Chairs District Level Advisory And Monitoring Committee Meeting To Review Central Schemes And Other Development Projects

The District Level Advisory and Monitoring Committee, 3rd Review Meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, was held under the chairmanship of Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari. It was attended by the Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi, Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh Nishant Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar, CEO of the Housing Board Pradeep Kumar, former Chandigarh Mayor Kamlesh, B.M. Khanna and other senior officials of the Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh administration.
A comprehensive review was conducted with regard to the implementation of various Central Government schemes under the purview of the Chandigarh administration and the Municipal Corporation respectively.
Tewari advised the Municipal Corporation to immediately carry out a water audit all across the city, especially in the relief and rehabilitation colonies, to find out as to whether there is any water contamination, given that reports have been repeatedly appearing in newspapers and people have been coming and representing to public functionaries that there is contamination with regard to drinking water, ostensibly by seepage into the drinking water from cracked sewage pipes. It was decided that a comprehensive audit would be carried out within the next 45 days, especially of all the relief and rehabilitation colonies in this regard.
Tewari advised the officials of the Chandigarh Housing Board to take a more humane view with regard to need-based changes in the dwelling units of the Chandigarh Housing Board. Tewari instructed the officials to give him a comparative chart of how the relaxations had evolved with regard to need-based changes in the Chandigarh Housing Board from 2014 to 2026, and what is the current situation with regard to these need-based changes whose benefit can be availed by the residents of the city.
It was also felt by all the members that the current vending zones do not have either economic efficiency or financial viability. Therefore, it was instructed to carry out a review of the vending zones right to the officials of the Chandigarh administration to allot new vending zone sites and close those which were unviable.
Tewari advised the Chief Engineer of the Chandigarh Administration, whose department is the interface with the Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL), to look into the issue of inflated bills, especially with regard to the problem created by the installation of solar panels and the generation power and the power generated as a consequence of that generation is not offset against the power consumed in the bills. Tewari advised him to take it up on priority.
The Mayor of Chandigarh also made very incisive interventions with regard to implementation of Central schemes, especially the Swachh Bharat Mission, the PMAY—the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, AMRUT 1 and 2 and other such central schemes which are being implemented in Chandigarh.
