In a significant step towards transforming Punjab’s public transport infrastructure, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will flag off 100 new buses of the PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) on April 6, 2026, reinforcing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab Government’s commitment to modern, efficient and accessible mobility across the state.

Highlighting the scale of this initiative, Punjab Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the Bhagwant Mann Government remains firmly committed to revitalising public transport infrastructure and ensuring a reliable and accessible transportation network for people across Punjab. “The flag-off of these buses is a clear demonstration of the government’s sustained efforts in this direction,” he added.

Detailing the PRTC modernisation drive, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated, “Punjab is making a capital investment of approximately ₹125 crore to procure a total of 100 Midi and 309 ordinary buses, which will be inducted into the fleet in a phased manner. To swiftly meet the increasing demand for public transport and further augment the operational capacity of the corporation, PRTC is also hiring an additional 254 ordinary buses under the Kilometer Scheme.” He added that this strategic move is designed to ensure efficient service delivery on key routes.

Expanding on the broader roadmap, the Minister further shared an ambitious expansion plan for PUNBUS. He stated, “The government is slated to add a staggering 606 buses to the PUNBUS fleet overall. This extensive plan includes 387 new buses to be added directly to the fleet. Furthermore, under the Kilometer Scheme, PUNBUS will be introducing 19 Volvo buses, 100 HVAC buses, and 100 ordinary buses.”

“By injecting over a thousand new and KM-scheme buses into the combined operations of PRTC and PUNBUS, the state is actively future-proofing Punjab’s transit system,” Harpal Singh Cheema added.

He further emphasised that this expansion reflects the Bhagwant Mann Government’s unwavering commitment to modernising the fleet and strengthening public transport as a dependable mode of travel.

Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated, “The initiative aims not only to facilitate economic growth through better connectivity but also to prioritise passenger comfort and road safety across Punjab.”
