Centre Of Excellence For Drug De-addiction & Skill Development Being Established In Collaboration With Ngos - Health Minister

Cabinet minister holds meeting with NGOs for better coordination and for getting feedback
Govt fully equipped to tackle covid-19; no need to panic as there is no cause of concern- Health minister
With the health department working rigorously to save the youth from drug abuse in the state, Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh stated that a centre of excellence for drug de-addiction and skill development is being established in Mullanpur (district Ludhiana) in collaboration with NGOs.
Holding a meeting with members of over 35 NGOs in a hotel near Phullanwal chowk, Health minister Dr Balbir Singh stated that apart from saving the drug addicts from drug abuse, the centre would also help them in developing skills which would allow them to have a better livelihood. He was also accompanied by MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu.
Cabinet minister stated that the aim for holding a meeting with the NGOs was to improve coordination and to get feedback from the members. Dr Singh stated that the centre in Mullanpur is being established in collaboration with Helpful NGO and a number of other NGOs have also stepped forward for the cause of saving the youth from drug abuse. Civil surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur among other officials of the health department were also present in the meeting.  
Further speaking of the concern being raised regarding Covid-19, health minister Dr Balbir Singh stated that there is no cause for concern. He added that the situation is completely normal and Punjab is fully equipped to tackle any situation.
The Minister also advised immune compromised individuals such as pregnant women, the elderly, and those with conditions like kidney disease, high BP, cancer, or respiratory issues to wear masks when stepping outside as a precautionary measure. He underscored the importance of vigilance while affirming the state’s preparedness to handle any health challenges.
Cabinet MInister Dr Singh also stressed upon 'Har Shukarwar Dengue Te Vaar' campaign wherein residents are being sensitised regarding cleaning and drying desert coolers, flower pots, water containers, fridge trays, tank water, and water storage containers etc every Friday to prevent mosquito breeding. 
He remarked that these are critical breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito, and regular cleaning is essential to stop dengue in its tracks. He also urged residents to wear full-sleeve shirts as an additional protective measure against mosquito which is known to bite during the daytime.
The Cabinet Minister highlighted the state-wide efforts under the campaign, noting that 20,000 ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers are actively inspecting homes across Punjab every Friday. These workers are tasked with identifying dengue larvae and educating communities on preventive steps, such as eliminating stagnant water and maintaining hygiene in and around households.
