State of Connecticut General Assembly Recognizes Dr. Deep Singh- Gatka
instructor, promoter of traditional games on “Miri Piri Diwas”-2024. *
State of Connecticut General Assembly becomes first State Assembly to
Recognizes Indigenous Sikh Martial Art “GATKA” – (Traditional Sikh Martial
Art) in US History.
Connecticut: (Aug 12 th ) Dr. Deep Singh, a well-known Gatka Master and an EHS
Professional, who is recently got lifetime achievement award from US President
Biden was also recognized by Connecticut General Assembly, CT.
Swaranjit Singh Khalsa Member Norwich City Council Congratulated Deep Singh on
this achievement along with Senator Cathy Osten, Representative Derell Wilson and
Representative Kevin Ryan who also sponsored the Citation.
Citation was also signed by President pro Tempore Martin Looney, Speaker of the
House Matt Ritter and Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas.
“Deep Singh’s Gatka Team continued participation in Connecticut at various events
is definitely bring more positivity to State and helping State to combat youth violence
issue.” said Kuljit Singh Director of Sikh Art Gallery, CT.
Deep Singh have been teaching & promoting this martial art which holds deep cultural
and historical significance. He is helping young kids to tackle bullying in the educational
institutes and teaching the young generation value of discipline, self-defense, and
spirituality, despite modern challenges of cultural preservation and keeping traditions
alive. Dr. Singh actively participating in Food and blood drives to help community in
tristate.
Dr. Singh hopes to continues this educational journey about “Gatka” and thanked
Local Connecticut non-profit “Sikh Art Gallery” for supporting this important youth
violence prevention and intervention program.
