Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Highlights Need for Affordable Advanced Healthcare



The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ludhiana, in association with Aykai Multispeciality Hospital, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on "Advances in Uro-Nephrology & Transplant – Robotic Revolution in Urology & Uro-Oncology Care" at IMA House, Ludhiana. Accredited with two Punjab Medical Council (PMC) Credit Hours, the CME witnessed participation from physicians, surgeons and healthcare professionals from across the region.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Sukesh Kumar Jain, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana, who appreciated the rapid advances in robotic surgery, kidney transplantation and uro-oncology. He emphasized that while medical technology has progressed remarkably, the greatest challenge is to make advanced healthcare affordable and accessible to every section of society, particularly the economically weaker population.

Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, who attended as the Guest of Honour, highlighted the efforts of the Punjab Government to ensure quality healthcare reaches the last segment of society. She said that through initiatives such as the Mukhyamantri Sehat Bima Yojana, under which numerous government and private hospitals have been empanelled, and the establishment of Aam Aadmi Clinics, which provide free consultations, diagnostic tests and essential medicines, the government is making sincere efforts to improve access to healthcare for the underprivileged. She also emphasized the importance of continuous medical education and preventive healthcare in strengthening the overall healthcare delivery system.

Dr. Manoj Kumar Sobti, Patron, IMA Ludhiana and Past State President, IMA Punjab, welcomed the Chief Guest, Mr. Sukesh Kumar Jain, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana, and Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana. He informed the gathering that IMA Ludhiana, with more than 1,600 members, is the largest branch of IMA Punjab and remains committed to keeping doctors updated with the latest scientific knowledge through regular academic programmes and Continuing Medical Education activities. He also stressed the need for enrolling more young doctors into IMA Ludhiana to further strengthen the association and make it even more vibrant and representative of the medical fraternity.

Welcoming the delegates, Dr. Ashish Kumar Ohri, Honorary Secretary, IMA Ludhiana, highlighted the importance of continuous medical education in enabling doctors to keep pace with evolving technologies and evidence-based medical practice.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh, Chief Urologist, Robotic and Transplant Surgeon, Aykai Multispeciality Hospital, who spoke on "How Robotics Has Revolutionized the Management of Urology, Kidney Transplantation and Uro-Oncology." He highlighted the advantages of robotic-assisted surgery, including greater precision, minimal blood loss, reduced pain, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery, while reaffirming Aykai Hospital's commitment to bringing world-class robotic and transplant services closer to the people of Punjab.

Among those present were Dr. Karamvir Goyal, PMC Observer; Dr. Pawan Dhingra, President, IMA Ludhiana; Dr. Avatar Singh Kharay, President-Elect; Dr. Dheeraj Aggarwal, Immediate Past President; Dr. Davinderjit Walia and Dr. Narjeet Kaur, Vice Presidents; Dr. Pritpal Singh, Member, Punjab Medical Council, Ludhiana, along with senior IMA members and a large gathering of medical professionals.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Pawan Dhingra, President, IMA Ludhiana, who thanked the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, faculty and delegates for making the CME a grand success and reaffirmed IMA Ludhiana's commitment to organising high-quality academic programmes for the benefit of the medical fraternity and improved patient care.
