Civil Surgeon Ludhiana Urges Public to Avail 24×7 Mental Health Support Ludhiana, 12 February 2026 Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, informed that the Tele-MANAS (Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States) helpline is playing an important role in strengthening mental health support in Punjab. More than 35,000 calls have been received on this helpline so far, where people have sought mental health counselling, emotional support, and psychological assistance. Tele-MANAS is an important initiative under the Government of India’s National Tele Mental Health Programme, aimed at providing free, confidential, and round-the-clock mental health support to people across the country. The service offers immediate assistance through trained counsellors, coping strategies for managing stress, psychological first aid, and referrals to specialists or healthcare institutions whenever required. Through this helpline, support is provided for issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, exam pressure, relationship problems, substance-use concerns, sleep disturbances, and crisis situations. It functions through a two-tier system — at the first level counsellors provide support, and when necessary, cases are referred to psychologists or psychiatrists. Dr. Ramandeep Kaur stated that the increasing number of calls reflects growing awareness about mental health among the public. She appealed to people to seek help without hesitation if they experience emotional distress. She also urged social organizations, schools, and families to spread awareness about this service. She further informed that citizens can avail of the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling the toll-free numbers 1800-89-14416 and 14416. Dr. Kaur reiterated that mental health is an essential component of overall health and encouraged people to make full use of this facility.
