Suspected Rabies Cases From Jagraon Declared Negative After Pgi Chandigarh Examination

Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, has clarified that seven patients from Jagraon, who were reported as suspected cases of rabies yesterday, have been declared free from rabies after detailed medical examination at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
She informed that the patients were referred to PGI Chandigarh immediately as a precautionary and preventive step, in line with standard health protocols, to ensure accurate diagnosis and timely management. The referral was done to rule out any possibility of rabies and to safeguard both the patients and the general public.
Following the referral of these suspected cases, the Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Hathur, promptly initiated a field survey in the concerned area of Jagraon. The purpose of the survey was to assess the local situation, identify any additional risk factors, and spread awareness among residents regarding animal bite prevention and timely medical treatment.
After comprehensive clinical evaluation and necessary investigations, PGI Chandigarh confirmed that none of the seven patients are affected by rabies. All patients are reported to be stable, and there is no threat to public health in the area.
Dr. Ramandeep Kaur appealed to the public not to panic and assured that the Health Department, Ludhiana, is fully alert and vigilant. She emphasized that the department continues to monitor the situation closely and has put all preventive, surveillance, and response mechanisms in place.
She further advised residents to immediately report any animal bite or suspicious symptoms to the nearest government health facility and to strictly follow medical advice, including completion of anti-rabies vaccination when prescribed.
The Health Department reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and stated that prompt and transparent action will continue to be taken in the interest of citizens.
