Phagwara Oct 9 (Shiv Kaura) After withdrawal of nominations for Panchayat Elections-2024, 863 candidates for Sarpanchi and 2705 candidates for Panchi have remained in the election field. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Amit Kumar Panchal said that after scrutiny and withdrawal of nominations, election marks have also been allotted to the candidates of Sarpanchi and Panchi. In the election ground, 154 for sarpanchi and 525 for panchi in Dhilwan block, 228 for sarpanchi and 691 for panchi in Kapurthala block, 122 for sarpanchi and 412 for panchi in Nadala block, 183 for sarpanchi and 629 for panchi in Phagwara block while Sultanpur Lodhi block 176 candidates for Sarpanchi and 448 candidates for Panchi have remained in the election field. He said that 190 Sarpanchs and 1872 Panchs have been elected without competition. These include 25 Sarpanchs and 263 Panchs in Dhilwan Block, 39 Sarpanchs and 421 Panchs in Kapurthala Block, 37 Sarpanchs and 322 Panchs in Nadala Block, 18 Sarpanchs and 287 Panchs in Phagwara Block, and 71 Sarpanchs and 579 Panchs in Sultanpur Lodhi Block. The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration has made adequate arrangements to conduct the elections on October 15 in a peaceful and fair manner. He said that the first rehearsal of the election staff has been done while other rehearsals are also being conducted to make the election staff well aware of the voting process at the block level. He appealed to the people to use their democratic rights more so that democracy can be strengthened at the ground level.
