Says, “Forget stopping Congress in the country, first save the BJP from Congressmen!”
Questions BJP's politics over the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre; accuses it of diverting attention from issues concerning the youth
Refers to the massive gathering at Rahul Gandhi's rally and targets the Central Government
Former Councillor and senior leader Parminder Mehta launched a sharp political attack on the BJP during the protest organised by the BJP outside the Congress office on Tibba Road over the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Mehta remarked that instead of talking about stopping Congress across the country, the BJP should first focus on saving its own party from Congressmen. Referring to the gathering at Rahul Gandhi's rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, he said the turnout reflected how the country's youth were raising their voices over important issues.
Mehta alleged that the BJP was using the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre issue to divert public attention from unemployment, farmers' problems and the country's economic challenges. He claimed that the Central Government had failed to address these issues during the past 12 years.
Referring to former President Giani Zail Singh, former Union Home Minister Buta Singh and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Mehta said that Congress had given Sikh leaders important constitutional and political responsibilities in the country. He questioned the BJP, asking it to provide concrete answers regarding justice for the victims of the 1984 massacre.
Mehta further said that instead of raising sensitive issues for political gains, discussions should focus on employment opportunities for youth, farmers' concerns and the country's economic condition. He cautioned that such political approaches could adversely affect Punjab's unity and communal harmony.
