- Over 200 students take the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge to champion a drug-free society
HOSHIARPUR, October 17: The National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of Rayat Bahra Professional University (RBPU), Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Hoshiarpur Block-1, organized the Block-Level Neighbourhood Youth Parliament 2026–27 under the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva’. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, aimed to sensitize the youth to the perils of substance abuse and inspire proactive community leadership toward a drug-free nation.
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Ms. Jasleen Kaur, Deputy Director, MY Bharat Hoshiarpur (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports), delivered an informative orientation on the MY Bharat Portal. She outlined the platform's core objectives, key features, and the wide array of opportunities available for youth empowerment, leadership training, and grassroots civic engagement.
Leading the technical session on ‘Understanding Substance Abuse: Challenges Before India’s Youth’, Dr. Gurjeet Singh, Dean, School of Computing & Engineering, addressed the root causes and cascading consequences of chemical dependency. Dr. Singh emphasized the severe physical, psychological, familial, and socio-economic toll of addiction, cautioning that substance abuse poses an immediate threat to India’s demographic dividend and the long-term vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Transitioning from theory to practice, Dr. Jyotsna, Dean, University School of Sciences (USS), conducted an interactive workshop titled ‘From Awareness to Action: Tools for a Nasha Mukt Yuva’. She urged students to take ownership of peer intervention, adopt healthy lifestyles, and actively support rehabilitation initiatives within their local communities.
A pivotal moment of the event was the administration of the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge led by MY Bharat volunteers. Participating students and faculty members solemnly resolved to stay away from drugs, oppose substance abuse in all forms, and actively spread awareness across society.
Around 200 students from the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) and the University School of Sciences actively participated in the deliberations. The event concluded with a valedictory address by Ms. Jasleen Kaur, who reiterated that collective responsibility and sustained youth leadership remain the bedrock of a healthy, drug-free India. The program was coordinated by Dr. Jyotsna, Dean, USS, and NSS Coordinator, RBPU.
