SHOW CAUSE NOTICE ISSUED TO SUPERINTENDENT ENGINEER FOR DERELICTION OF DUTY
INTERACTS WITH FOLKS ON MUNICIPAL SERVICES; LISTENS TO PUBLIC GRIEVANCES
Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh today conducted surprise visit to the Abohar Municipal Corporation in early morning. He toured various wards of the city and interacted directly with residents to assess the quality of municipal services and hear their grievances. During the visit, he ordered to issue a show cause notice to the Superintendent Engineer of the Municipal Corporation for dereliction of duty.
Dr. Ravjot Singh said that his visit was in line with Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive to connect with citizens and address their issues promptly. He visited the city’s garbage dump, Indira Nagar Stadium, Nehru Stadium, Sabzi Mandi, Krishna Nagar, Ghumiar Mohalla and Azimgarh, inspecting local infrastructure and engaging with the public.
At Ghumiar Mohalla, residents raised concerns about adulterated drinking water. In response, the Cabinet Minister immediately directed that a show cause notice be served to the Superintendent Engineer. He said that public issues must be addressed on a priority basis and urged municipal officers to proactively visit the wards, just as he had done, to listen to and resolve citizens’ concerns.
At the garbage dump site, Dr. Ravjot Singh instructed that old waste be cleared promptly and that segregation and management of wet and dry waste be carried out in accordance with established guidelines.
During his visit to Indira Nagar Stadium, he directed officials to enhance available facilities and ensure the completion of the unfinished community hall.
He also visited the local vegetable market, where he interacted with shopkeepers to inquire about cleanliness and general conditions.
Going door to door in various neighborhoods, Dr. Ravjot Singh personally gathered feedback on drinking water supply and sanitation. In Azimgarh, he issued strict instructions to Electricity Corporation officials to expedite road repairs and fix damaged poles and electric wires on the spot.
Speaking to the media, the Cabinet Minister criticized the previous government for initiating projects without proper planning, which he said had hampered the city’s development. He assured that the Mann government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, would complete these projects on a priority, adding that there is no shortage of funds for the city’s development.
Responding to a query about water issues, he said that the possibility of constructing additional tanks at the city’s waterworks is being considered.
Former MLA Mr. Arun Narang said that the Punjab government is committed to urban development and that the Cabinet Minister’s visit is a step towards planned growth in the city.
Dr. Ravjot Singh was welcomed by former MLA Mr. Arun Narang, Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and SDM Krishna Pal Rajput.
On the occasion District Planning Board Chairman Sunil Sachdeva, Market Committee Abohar Chairman Upkar Singh Jakhar, Advocate Harpreet Singh and other local leaders were also present.
