Pau Alumnus Joins As Assistant Professor At South Dakota State University, Usa

Dr Sachin Dhanda, an alumnus of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), brought fame to his Alma Mater by joining as Assistant Professor of Weed Science at South Dakota State University (SDSU), Brookings, South Dakota, USA. He earned his Ph.D. in Weed Science from the Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, USA (2024), following his M.Sc. in Agronomy from PAU, Ludhiana (2020) and B.Sc. Agriculture from CCSHAU, Hisar, (2018). He further enriched his expertise through Postdoctoral Research at the University of Minnesota. Dr Dhanda has received >40 awards and scholarships, including ‘Impactful Research Award’ from University of Minnesota, ‘Outstanding Graduate Student Award’ from Weed Science Society of America, besides several others. He has also published 25 research papers till date. At SDSU, Dr Dhanda will teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in weed science and lead a dynamic research program focused on weed ecology, biology, and the development of integrated weed management strategies. His research will primarily target corn, soybean, and wheat - key crops vital to the economic sustainability of South Dakota's agricultural industry. He will also collaborate closely with multi-state researchers, government agencies, and stakeholders to address regional weed management challenges and promote science-based solutions in crop production systems. Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of PAU, congratulated Dr Dhanda for this significant achievement and continued success. “PAU is proud of its alumnus and looks forward to collaboration with SDSU to address weed management challenges and make significant contributions to weed science, shaping agricultural sustainability and enhancing weed management practices for agricultural community,” he added. Dr MIS Gill, Dean Post Graduate Studies, and Dr Hari Ram, Head, Department of Agronomy, PAU, also hailed Dr Dhanda and believed that lucrative collaborative research efforts will be undertaken in the future as well.
