National Herald Scam is Gandhi Family’s Blueprint of Corruption and Land Grab: Chugh

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh today launched a scathing attack on the Congress party over the National Herald scam, calling it not just financial misconduct but a moral betrayal of India’s freedom struggle. He said the newspaper, once hailed as the voice of India, has been turned into a private ATM of the Gandhi family.
Chugh said that Congress orchestrated a corporate conspiracy by misusing public donations and party funds to illegally transfer properties worth thousands of crores into the control of a company — “Young Indian” — in which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi held 76% ownership. “What they shamelessly call a ‘charitable trust’ was nothing more than a facade for loot and control,” said Chugh.
He added that a ₹90 crore loan was written off in exchange for a mere ₹50 lakh — essentially giving the Gandhi family full control over prime real estate in Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, and more. “Is this charity or pure daylight robbery under political protection?” Chugh asked.
Even after four years, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi — both out on bail — have failed to provide convincing answers in court. Instead of cooperating with the legal process, they are inciting protests and threatening agencies like the Enforcement Directorate. “Why does the Congress fear investigation if their hands are clean?” questioned Chugh.
He also highlighted Sardar Patel’s early warnings against the dubious fundraising methods of the National Herald, and how the paper, instead of becoming the voice of the people, became the voice of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. “This is not the Gandhi model of development; this is the Gandhi model of property capture,” Chugh asserted.
Demanding accountability, Chugh said the Congress must explain to the people how and why a newspaper that was started during the freedom struggle ended up being a vehicle for private profiteering. “This is a mockery of democracy, and the BJP will not stay silent on it,” he concluded.
