*Punjab Government is working in line with ideology of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar*
Samrala MLA Jagtar Singh Dyalpura on Wednesday stated that the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has amended the recruitment process for law officers to ensure that the lawyers belonging to SC Community can reach the posts of Advocate General.
MLA added that previously, income limits ranged from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh restricted opportunities for Scheduled Caste (SC) lawyers. For the first time under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, reservations have been implemented for SC lawyers in the High Court, enabling their appointment to law officer posts.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to address long-standing barriers faced by SC lawyers, MLA Dyalpura noted that high income eligibility criteria in the Advocate General’s office was the biggest roadblock in this process. To resolve this, the government consulted prominent Dalit lawyers and MLAs to devise an inclusive solution.
Following directives from AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, amendments were made to reduce income limits for law officer appointments from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 10 lakh and from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh. He described the reform as a historic achievement reflecting AAP’s commitment to social justice and equality.
