-Meeting by Land and Water Conservation Minister with officials
The Land and Water Conservation Department of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann has drawn up a pilot project with new technology to permanently solve the problem of waterlogging in Fazilka district. The Punjab government will spend Rs. 27 crore on this and this project will prove to be a boon for the farmers of 29 villages. This information was given by Punjab Water Resources and Land and Water Conservation Minister Mr. Barinder Kumar Goyal during a meeting with the department officials at Arniwala late last evening. On this occasion, MLA of Jalalabad Mr. Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy was also especially present.
On this occasion, the Cabinet Minister said that the state government is determined to help the farmers and that is why this project of new technology was designed by the Land and Water Conservation Department so that the problem of waterlogging could be permanently solved. On this occasion, he directed the officials to complete the projects of the department at the earliest. This will benefit about 5000 hectares of land. It is worth mentioning that the problem of waterlogging has arisen in some villages of Khuian Sarwar, Abohar and Arniwala blocks of Fazilka district. Due to which the farmers were suffering. Earlier, to solve the problem of waterlogging, a network of perforated pipes was made below 3-5 feet deep from the surface of the earth, from which water was collected and collected at one place and from there it was sent to the drain, but these pipes used to get filled with silt in a short time and this did not provide a permanent solution to waterlogging.
How will the new technology be different?
Under the new technology, a 30-50 feet deep borewell-tubewell will be installed in every 25 acres of land. The tube well will pump water out of the waterlogged soil. This tube well will be operated with solar energy. This will not incur any daily expenses of the project. Each tube well will be connected to the pipeline network and this water will be discharged into the nearby drain. This project will help in draining the waterlogged soil to a greater depth, due to which there will be no problem of waterlogging even during the rainy season.
Divisional Soil Conservation Officer S. Gurinder Singh said that this pilot project will be implemented in villages Ghallu, Khuikhera, Kabulshah Khubban, Khiowali, Lakhewali, Aliana, Tahliwala Bodla, Ghattianwali Jattan, Sajrana, Kuharyan Wali, Burj Hanumangarh, Singh Pura, Chahal Wali, Ghattianwali Bodla, Pakan, Banna Wala, Alamgarh, Syedwala, Kikar Khera, Dharam Pura, Dhaba Kokrian, Dhrangwala, Bahadur Khera, Kala Tibba, Jodhpur, Ramgarh, Gaddadob, Ramsara and Dotaranwali
