After 70 years of independence, Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government has undertaken a comprehensive initiative to strengthen infrastructure in government schools across the state such as smart classrooms, modern laboratories, playgrounds and integration of information technology to provide students with up-to-date educational facilities, said Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, after inaugurating buildings at seven schools in Jandiala Vidhan Sabha constituency today as part of the "Sikhya Kranti" initiative.

The projects, with a combined cost of approximately Rs.1.54 crore, include Government Elementary School Dhirekot's boundary wall, anganwadi room and new classroom (Rs. 20.13 lakh), Government Middle School Dhirekot's boundary wall and new bathrooms (Rs.2.70 lakh), Government Elementary School Gehri's new classroom and bathroom (Rs.12.37 lakh), Government Elementary School Bhangwan's boundary wall, Anganwari room, RO water system and new classroom (Rs.20.63 lakh), Government Middle School Bhangwan's roof repairs (Rs.2.36 lakh), Government High School Tangra's boundary wall, new classroom, library, art and craft room and interlocking tiles (Rs.48.62 lakh), Government Elementary School Tangra's clean water facilities, toilets and new classroom (Rs.47.20 lakh).

The Cabinet Minister said that this educational transformation extends beyond urban schools to border area schools, where schools are receiving improved infrastructure including smart classrooms, internet connectivity, sanitary facilities, quality furniture and purpose-built playgrounds.

Launching scathing attack previous administrations, Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that had earlier governments prioritized educational infrastructure then our government could have focused on further modernization.

"The previous governments only knew how to oppose. If these governments had changed the fate of schools in the border areas, perhaps Punjab would not need an educational revolution today", said the Cabinet Minister, adding that Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government has been seriously working on health and education from the beginning, which has resulted in Schools of Eminence and Aam Aadmi Clinics where patients are receiving free healthcare services.

The event was attended by District Education Officer (Elementary) Kanwaljit Singh, District Education Officer (Secondary) Harbhagwant Singh, Deputy DEO Anju Bala, Chairman Gurbinder Singh, Chairman Shanakh Singh, numerous village Sarpanchs and Panchs along with students and parents.

Parents at the event praised the government's initiative, noting that their children now receive superior education in government schools compared to private institutions, with the additional benefits of free tuition and textbooks.
