Accurate census data vital for welfare planning and development: ADC Poonam Singh
Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Census Officer Poonam Singh on Wednesday chaired a review meeting with Enumerators and Supervisors deployed in Ludhiana West tehsil under Phase-I of Census 2027, which includes house listing operations and the housing census.
District Census Coordinator Alok Kumar, Master Trainer Upma Kaul, census staff, the Tehsildar of Ludhiana West, and other officials were also present during the meeting.
During the meeting, the ADC reviewed the progress of ongoing field activities and discussed various technical, administrative, and operational challenges being faced by Enumerators and Supervisors during the census exercise. She provided necessary guidance and instructions to ensure the smooth, transparent, and effective conduct of census operations.
Emphasizing the importance of accuracy and timely completion of assigned tasks, Poonam Singh directed the field staff to strictly adhere to Census guidelines while carrying out House Listing Operations. She also urged officials to maintain coordination at all levels to ensure quality data collection. She further instructed Supervisors to regularly monitor the work of Enumerators and ensure that no household is left uncovered during the survey process.
Stressing the importance of public cooperation, the ADC asked field staff to maintain polite behaviour while interacting with residents and to spread awareness regarding the significance of Census activities.
The ADC also highlighted that data collected during the Census plays a vital role in policy formulation, planning of welfare schemes, infrastructure development, and allocation of government resources. She said accurate census data is essential for ensuring balanced and inclusive development across urban as well as rural areas.
Officials informed during the meeting that nearly 10,000 Enumerators and around 1,600 Supervisors have been deployed across Ludhiana district for Census 2027 field operations.
ADC Poonam Singh reiterated the administration’s commitment to conducting the Census exercise efficiently and systematically to ensure reliable and comprehensive data collection across the district.
