They too have appreciated Dr Tamil Neogi interest which borders on passion for literature, which gave a new lease of life to ‘LUSTUS”. Dr Neogi has been an English professor in a university in West Bengal and writes poetry herself and authored a number of books too.
‘Lustus’ is Prince of Darkness; his name suggests that his existence revolves around lust. Milton's Pandemonium is later created by this Lustonia in which Satan's reign is significant, and the new Lustus is anointed as the hero. In the 21st century, peoples’ reliance on technology in their lives along with the stress of becoming increasingly alone, has become Lustus' weapon. He wants to conquer mankind by tempting men with various facilities and comfortable life. He challenges the gods of heaven not to neglect mankind like them. But even the gods don't want to lose power. So, the battle cries rang out with a strange but real result. The characters of this modern play, written in the structure of an epic poem, cross the boundaries of different eras, cross the history of different religions and hold together, talking to each other through dialogue. It’s an interesting reading finding out if in the end, the plan of Lustus was successful?
