*Clarifies that if any voter was not able to be “mapped” does not mean his/her vote has been deleted*

*Assures all eligible voters will be able to exercise their right to vote in elections*

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer (DEO) Ludhiana Mr Himanshu Jain IAS today said that it has come to the attention of the district administration that false and misleading information is being circulated by certain media outlets, claiming that approximately 6 to 7 lakh votes have been deleted in Ludhiana under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Election Commission of India.

Mr Himanshu Jain has categorically refuted these reports, labeling them as entirely baseless, false, and far from the truth. He said that there is a significant difference between 'unmapped voters' and 'deletion' of votes. The 6-7 lakh voters of Ludhiana being discussed in a section of media are unmapped voters—meaning their names exist on the electoral rolls, but they have not yet been mapped to specific booth/electoral layouts due to mapping parameters and technical rules set by the ECI.

He assured that no voter names have been deleted and their votes continue to exist. He informed that before any vote is ever deleted, a comprehensive, multi-phase procedure established by the Election Commission of India is followed.

He said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are actively working on re-verification of each and every voter and starting June 25, 2026, BLOs will conduct a door-to-door survey visiting the homes of both mapped and unmapped voters to fill out required enumeration forms.

He informed that the voters will have ample opportunity to submit necessary documents during the claims and objections period to secure their inclusion in the draft electoral roll. He further clarified that if a voter is ever considered for deletion, a formal notice is issued to the individual first, followed by a speaking order passed by the ERO or Additional AERO.

The DEO has urged all media houses, social media pages, and digital influencers to refrain from spreading unverified information that creates unnecessary panic and anxiety among the Ludhiana residents. The Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana has warned of strict legal action against anyone found intentionally spreading malicious rumors and fake news regarding the ongoing SIR.
