*5 ATM THEFTS IN 3 DISTRICTS TRACED*

*LUDHIANA, 02 June, 2026:* Ludhiana Commissionerate Police led by Additional CP Rupinder Singh, IPS, DCP Investigation Harpal Singh, PPS, ADCP Investigation Amandeep Singh Brar, PPS, ADCP-1 Sameer Verma, PPS and joint operational teams supervised by ACP Investigation-1 Harshpreet Singh and ACP North Kikkar Singh led by CIA Staff, Crime Branch, and PS Basti Jodhewal have successfully dismantled an organized inter-district ATM-breaking gang.

The police teams led by Inspector Avtar Singh, Inspector Navdeep Singh along with Inspector Jasvir Singh arrested *two key operatives* and recovered a *.32 bore pistol* with 2 live cartridges, an *industrial gas cutter set*, an *gas cylinder*, a *portable cutting machine*, and a *Maruti Suzuki Ertiga* getaway vehicle (PB-01-D-0707).

*Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Swapan Sharma, IPS* informed that the arrests follow a criminal attempt during the intervening night of 19th and 20th May 2026 near Noorwala Road, Shivpuri Chowk. While the suspects were cutting an ATM vault, an electrical short-circuit triggered a fire, forcing them to flee. Intercepted by a PCR Tango-6 patrol team, the suspects opened direct fire upon the police personnel to evade arrest.

Consequently, *FIR No. 88 dated 20-05-2026* was registered at PS Basti Jodhewal under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Mr. Swapan informed that using advanced technical and electronic intelligence, police teams first apprehended *Jasminder Singh alias Jass* on 25th May 2026 along with the getaway vehicle. His disclosure revealed that a 6-member gang from Amritsar had traveled to Ludhiana to target the ATM. Acting on his pointers, police raided a hideout on 2nd June 2026 and arrested the second core operative, *Deepak Kumar alias Deepu Bihari*, recovering the weapon used against the PCR team directly from his possession.

The Commissioner further informed that the gang conducted daytime recces of isolated ATMs and targeted them at night using high-temperature gas cutters. They have confessed to multiple ATM robberies across Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and other districts of Punjab.

*PROFILES OF THE ARRESTED ACCUSED*

* *1. Deepak Kumar alias Deepu Bihari** (Son of Inderjit Kumar, R/o Guru Nanakpura, Sultanwind, Amritsar). A habitual offender with *21 registered cases* between 2007 and 2022, including murder attempt (Sec 307 IPC), murder (Sec 302 IPC), robbery, Arms Act, Prison Act, and NDPS Act violations across Amritsar and Bathinda.

* *2. Jasminder Singh alias Jass* (Son of Satveer Singh, R/o New Kotmit Singh, Tarn Taran Road, Amritsar. No FIRs before this targeted string of incidents.

Mr. Swapan briefed the press that preliminary interrogations have successfully resolved 5 major inter-district BNS cases linked directly to this gang:

1. *FIR No. 58 (05-05-2025):* Sections 309(4), 3(5), 111 BNS – PS Cantt, Jalandhar.

2. *FIR No. 210 (19-07-2025):* Sections 331(4), 305(e), 324(4) BNS – PS Rama Mandi, Jalandhar.

3. *FIR No. 141 (27-12-2025):* Sections 331(4), 305 BNS – PS Sadar Phagwara, Kapurthala.

4. *FIR No. 179 (27-12-2025):* Sections 331(4), 305 BNS – PS Jodhewal, Ludhiana.

5. *FIR No. 88 (20-05-2026):* Current case sections under BNS – PS Jodhewal, Ludhiana.

He informed that the accused are being produced in Court to obtain extended police remand for deeper interrogation, asset recovery, and to trace financial forward-linkages. Special teams are actively raiding suspected hideouts to arrest the four remaining absconding accomplices.
