The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Hawaldar(Head Constable) Harpal Singh posted at Police Station lakhoke behram, district Ferozepur red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 10000/-.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of village Saroop Singh Wala, tehsil Guruharsahai district Ferozepur.
He said that the a case was registered against the complainant's brother in NDPS Act and the accused Hawaldar demanded bribe of Rs one lakh from the complainant in lieu of helping her in that case and not nominate her brother in any other case. In connection with this, accused Hawaldar received bribe money of Rs. 20000/- from the complainant and continued demanding the remaining amount. Complainant had also recorded the conversation of the accused while demanding gratification.
The spokesperson added that after a preliminary enquiry on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused was arrested while accepting bribe money of Rs 10000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ferozepur and further investigation into this case is under progress.
