Competition On poka – yoke(japanese Tool)to Improve Quality, Cost, Delivery

CICU has been organizing various programs for the benefit of the industry and trade sectors of Punjab. Skill Up-gradation of the Industrial employees/workers is one of the key agenda under the Make in India, Zero Defects and Zero Effect and -Atmanirbhar Bharat- initiatives by the Government & facilitated by Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings. In this regards, CICU has recognized its responsibility and organized a Training Program and Competition on Poka Yoke : Human Mistake Proofing at CICU Complex, Focal Point Ludhiana. Poka-Yoke is a Japanese Concept which means mistake proofing. A Poka - Yoke is a method which prevents the defective parts from being made or assembled and easily identifies error. It was introduced by Mr. Shigeo Shingo in 1961, who was an industrial engineer at Toyota Motor Corporation. This technique helps to reduce cost of poor quality and avoid 100% inspection. Sh. S. B. Singh Joint Secretary CICU in his welcome address said that there is a dire need for the up-gradation of the industry in terms of skills especially in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises for Global Competition. Learning latest and innovative skills has become very important and skill up-gradation plays a vital role. He further said the Poka - Yoke has a very effective tool for improving productivity, quality, reducing rejections and improving safety measures. It simplifies the production process. It has proved its effectiveness in many companies. The objective of the competition is to help companies, learn best practices and case studies in adopting Poka Yoke Methodology. More than 80 participants for training program including of Managers, Assistant Managers and Engineers working at Assembly lines, Machines, Equipment, Tooling and Maintenance Departments, Designers, Tool Makers, Project Developers, Unit Heads attended this training program (in the morning session). The interactive and thought provoking program was conducted by the Guest Faculty Mr. Manjit Singh, Vice President Operations, having more than 26 years of rich experience in Leading Manufacturing Companies. He enlightened the participants with various error proof systems, tools and techniques of Poka Yoke for practical implementation in various types of industries. Important tips regarding day-to-day shop floor problems and their solutions for use in industrial and business enterprises were also explained to participants. In the afternoon Poka Yoke Competition session, 23 leading companies delegates explained the practical Poka Yoke with PPTs and videos i.e. Steel Strips Wheels Ltd., Vardhman Special Steels, Auto Forge, Kay jay Forgings, Hero Cycles Ltd., Farmparts Company, Asian cast & Forge, Moonlight Auto Pvt. Ltd., SKG Engineering Company, Big Ben Industry, Highway Industries Ltd(Unit-III), Vardhman Spinning & General Mills, Steel Strips Wheels Ltd. They explained their poka yoke for increasing productivity and quality and controlling wastage and cost. Some of the team also presented PPT for Accident Controls, Safety Measures and Environment improvement and reducing the man power on the exciting system with the different types of Poka Yoke methodology i.e. Alarm Type, Shutdown Type and Control Type. They also discussed the benefits of implementation of their Poka Yoke in their companies, which increase overall profitability. There was a lot of practical cross learning to the training participants as well as competition teams. Three eminent jury members S/Sh. R.P.S. Kalsi - Senior Consultant and Specialist in Lean Manufacturing practices, Dr. Sanjeev Katoch – General Manager Institute For Auto Parts and Handtools Technology and Dr. Arvind Dhingra – Executive Director Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park – Guru Nanak Dev Engineering Collage Ludhiana. Mr. Manjit Singh Vice President New Swan Group was a special observer for the competition program The Jury Members appreciated the quality Poka Yoke works done by teams and advised Poka Yoke trainees to adopt and implement these practices in their respective companies for improvements. This program was coordinated by Sh. N K Gupta – Director CICU and his team. Sh. Honey Sethi General Secretary CICU in his concluding remarks said that due to global competition, MSME Sector is facing new challenges. He was hopeful that knowledge shared in this program, if implemented practically and effectively by the participants will definitely benefits the industry. He expressed his thanks to the training participants and competition teams for joining this program. The program was highly appreciated by the participants and they expressed their thanks for adding value to their knowledge and skills.
