In a significant step towards inclusive development, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, Sh. Himanshu Jain IAS, today distributed 10 specially customised electric mobility vehicles to Divyangjan (specially-abled) individuals under **Project UMEED** — *Uplifting Mission for Education and Empowerment of Divyangajans* — reinforcing the administration's commitment to empowering every section of society.
The vehicles, sourced from **NeoMotion** — a company dedicated to mobility solutions for persons with disabilities — have been specially customised to suit the physical dimensions and needs of each individual beneficiary, ensuring maximum comfort and ease of use. The initiative was funded by **Vardhman Textiles Limited**, whose generous contribution made the distribution possible.
Each vehicle is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 25 km/h a single full battery charge, offering reliable, independent mobility to the beneficiaries in their day-to-day lives.
Speaking at the occasion, DC Sh. Himanshu Jain highlighted that the initiative goes beyond mobility — it is a gateway to economic independence. These vehicles will enable the Divyangjan recipients to pursue livelihood and employment opportunities, allowing them to become self-reliant and contribute actively to society.
Vardhman Textiles Limited was commended for its exemplary Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in funding the vehicles, reflecting the spirit of public-private partnership in furthering social welfare goals.
Project UMEED continues to work towards building an inclusive ecosystem for specially-abled persons in Ludhiana district through sustained interventions in education, empowerment, and livelihood generation.
