Ludhiana, February 21: Reiterating commitment to clean Buddha Dariya, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria reviewed the Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation Project during his visit to the city on Saturday. Accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, MC Commissioner Dr Neeru Katyal Gupta, MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh among other officials, Governor Kataria also inspected the Buddha Dariya site near 'Sangat Ghat' on Tajpur road and the effluent treatment plant (ETP) in Tajpur road dairy complex. Governor Kataria took a boat ride with MP Seechewal and other officials in Buddha Dariya near 'Sangat Ghat' on Tajpur road. The Sangat Ghat has been established by MP Seechewal under the ongoing 'Kar Sewa'. Following this, Governor Kataria held a meeting to review the Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation Project in Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) wherein MP Seechewal, DC Himanshu Jain, MC Commissioner Dr Neeru Katyal Gupta, among other officials of PPCB, Sewerage Board, Soil Conservation department etc also participated. Governor Kataria stated that he has been holding regular review meetings to ensure that plans to rejuvenate the Buddha Dariya are executed properly. He directed the authorities to take strict action against the violators dumping cow dung and industrial waste in the Dariya. Governor further stated that the Dariya holds historic and religious importance too and no one can be allowed to pollute the waters. Stating that progress has been seen at the ground level, Governor directed the authotities to further tighten the noose against violators, wherever required. Appealing the residents to support the authorities in reducing pollution in the Buddha Dariya, Governor Kataria stated that he has monitoring the progress on a regular basis.
