A joint inspection team led by Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, conducted a comprehensive inspection of fruit and vegetable markets and banana ripening centres to ensure the safety and quality of food products being supplied to consumers.
The inspection was carried out by Dr. Ashish Chawla, Jaswinder Singh, DFSO, Food Civil Supplies, and Jaspreet Kaur Gill Sidhu, Department of Horticulture, Bhupinder Singh supervisor market committee new sabzi mandi under the leadership and supervision of Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana.
During the drive, the team inspected papaya, mango, and banana stocks at the Market Committee Mandi and visited banana ripening centres operating in the Anaj Mandi area. Samples of papaya, mango, and banana were collected for laboratory testing to assess their quality and compliance with food safety standards.
The team also collected samples of capsicum, ladyfinger (okra), and brinjal from the Budha Nala area. These samples will be tested for heavy metals and pesticide residues to ensure that the produce meets prescribed safety standards.
All collected samples have been sent for detailed laboratory analysis, and necessary action will be taken based on the findings of the reports.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, stated that regular surveillance and scientific testing of fruits and vegetables are essential to protect public health. She emphasized that the Health Department, in coordination with the Food Civil Supplies Department and the Department of Horticulture, emains committed to ensuring that food items reaching consumers are safe, wholesome, and free from harmful contaminants. She further added that such joint inspection drives will continue across the district to strengthen food safety monitoring and consumer protection.
The joint team reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and safeguarding public health through continuous inspections, sampling, and enforcement activities.
