Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia on Thursday constituted a three-member fact-finding committee to conduct a detailed inquiry into the escape of 31 patients from the Rehabilitation Centre, Janer during the Wednesday late evening hours.
According to information received through an email from the Moga Deputy Medical Commissioner, eight out of the 31 patients who escaped, had been admitted under Section 64-A of the NDPS Act. Taking serious note of the incident, which indicates negligence and a major security lapse on the part of the concerned officials, the Deputy Commissioner has ordered an immediate inquiry into the matter.
The committee includes Additional Deputy Commissioner (G), Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) and Deputy Medical Commissioner. The committee has been directed to submit its report to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Moga by May 22. It has been asked to conduct a thorough inquiry into all facts and circumstances leading to the incident and to fix responsibility wherever required. It will also submit specific recommendations to prevent such incidents in future.
