Punjab Assembly Convene Monday To Take Amendment Bill To Make Stringent Punishment For Sacrilege

Chandigarh, 11 April। Punjab legislative assembly in a form of special session will convene on monday to take an amendment Bill to Make sacrilege punishment more stringent then existing.

Punjab cabinet cleared amendment Bill on Saturday in meeting presided by chief minister Bhagwant mann. The bill named shri Guru Granth Sahib satkar amendment bill 2026.Bill stipulated life imprisonment for secrilege crime.

Punjab witnessed many secrilege incidents since 2015.A spokesperson of Punjab Chief minister office said sacrilege incidents hurt religious sentiments and society face destabilise situation.Though sections 298,299,300exists under bhartiya nayay sanhita to punish sacrilege guilty but punishment not hard enough.
He said after deep deliberation and wide consultation Government decided to make secrilege punishment more hard.Government considered seriousness of sacrilege crime and purpose of religious sanctity and social harmony cabinet decided to amend jaagat Jyoti shri Guru granth Sahib satkar act 2008.previous act will replaced by jaagat Jyoti Shri Guru granth Sahib satkar amended bill 2026.new law deal evil elements in a strict manner.
