-Conspiracy by central agencies and deep state to create unrest in Punjab: Dr. Balbir Singh

-BJP should show even 10 hospitals in Rajasthan and Gujarat comparable to Punjab: Health Minister

Patiala, May 20, 2026:  Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh launched a sharp attack on Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, asking him to apologise and warning that the people of Punjab would teach both Bittu and the BJP a lesson.

Addressing a press conference here today, the Health Minister said that during his visit to Dhuri Sub-Divisional Hospital to enquire about the health of a BJP leader admitted there, Bittu had praised the hospital’s treatment facilities on one hand, while on the other hand his “dirty tricks department” uploaded pictures of dogs inside the hospital on social media. He said this cheap act had exposed the narrow mindset and double standards of the BJP leader.

Dr. Balbir Singh said that the Union Minister had appreciated the langar arrangements being run jointly by NGO Sarv Bharti Seva Samiti and the Dhuri Hospital for patients, mentioning that the hospital caters to nearly 600 OPD patients daily. However, at the same time, he was trying to portray through social media posts that no patients visit the hospital. He said this clearly shows that Ravneet Bittu says one thing and does another, and Punjabis will definitely respond to such double-faced politics.

The Health Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has transformed Dhuri Sub-Divisional Hospital into such an excellent healthcare facility that not only common people but even BJP leaders come there for treatment. He added that even BJP-ruled states like Gujarat and Rajasthan do not have such impressive sub-divisional hospitals. Referring to his own visit to Bhuj Government Hospital, he claimed that even basic fever medicine was unavailable there, let alone other medical treatment facilities.

Dr. Balbir Singh challenged BJP leaders to show even 10 hospitals in their party-ruled states that could match Punjab’s healthcare institutions. He further alleged that the Centre was using agencies like the ED, CBI and IT Wing to create an atmosphere of unrest in Punjab.

He said that while central agencies are active on the borders of Rajasthan and Gujarat, they have failed to protect Punjab’s borders, allowing drugs and weapons to be smuggled across the border to destroy Punjab’s youth. He alleged that the “deep state” is fully active in trying to disturb Punjab’s atmosphere, but asserted that the people of Punjab would give a befitting reply to BJP’s actions.

Dr. Balbir Singh further alleged that the Centre had withheld Punjab’s Rural Development Fund, stopped MGNREGA by snatching livelihood opportunities from the poor and weakened the powers of village gram sabhas. He also criticised the handling of the NEET examination system, alleging that those behind the paper leak scandal were linked to the BJP and were being protected by it.

He alleged that the BJP wants to reintroduce anti-farmer and anti-Punjab laws, that Punjab’s water rights through Bhakra are being taken away, and remarked that if given a chance, they would even remove Punjab’s name from the national anthem.

AAP district rural president Harpal Singh Virk, Jasbir Singh Gandhi, Suresh Rai and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
