The Health Department, Ludhiana organized a review meeting with Block Extension Educators (BEEs) and Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) regarding the ongoing Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign being conducted across the district to protect adolescent girls from cervical cancer. The meeting was chaired by Civil Surgeon Ludhiana Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, who reviewed the progress of the campaign and discussed various strategies to further boost vaccination coverage and public awareness during the ongoing drive.
Addressing the officials, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur emphasized that the HPV vaccination campaign is an important public health initiative aimed at safeguarding adolescent girls from cervical cancer through timely immunization. She stated that awareness at the community level is essential for the success of the campaign and directed field staff to intensify information, education and communication activities in schools, urban areas and rural communities. She urged health teams to work in close coordination with parents, teachers, Anganwadi workers and community leaders to ensure that every eligible girl is covered under the campaign.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding strengthening field monitoring, improving beneficiary mobilization and addressing misconceptions related to vaccination through effective counselling and awareness sessions. The Civil Surgeon also instructed officials to ensure proper follow-up and maintain smooth coordination between health institutions and field staff for successful implementation of the campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, District Immunization Officer Dr. Harpreet Singh highlighted the importance of continuous community engagement and timely reporting from the field. He stated that special emphasis is being laid on increasing awareness regarding the safety and effectiveness of the HPV vaccine and informed that health teams are actively conducting outreach activities to motivate parents to vaccinate their daughters. He further added that all vaccination sessions are being conducted as per standard safety protocols, including post-vaccination observation of beneficiaries.
The meeting also focused on strengthening communication strategies through interpersonal counselling, awareness camps and local outreach activities to achieve maximum participation during the HPV vaccination drive. Health officials reiterated that the HPV vaccine is a safe and effective measure for preventing cervical cancer and appealed to parents to fully support the campaign.
Among those present during the meeting were District Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur and Deputy Mass Education and Information Officer Rajinder Singh, along with Block Extension Educators and LHVs from various health blocks of the district.
