Case under Drugs and Cosmetics Act after firm fails to produce purchase records
Ludhiana, April 7: Acting on specific secret information, the Drugs Control Department conducted an inspection at a medical store in the Kaneja area of Ludhiana. The inspection was carried out by the Drugs Control Officer, Ludhiana-3, to verify compliance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the rules framed thereunder.
During the inspection, the firm was found stocking nine varieties of allopathic medicines containing Pregabalin and Alprazolam salts. However, the firm failed to produce the mandatory purchase records of these medicines as required under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
In view of the violation, the medicines valued at approximately Rs. 47,640/- were seized on the spot under the relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
According to information shared by Sh. Navdeep Sandhu, Drugs Control Officer, Ludhiana-3, strict action will be taken against any violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. He further stated that such inspections and enforcement drives will continue in future to curb illegal stocking and sale of medicines and to safeguard public health.
