With the district administration working to achieve the target of maximum voter turnout during the Lok Sabha-2024 elections, students in different schools of the district form human chains to spread awareness among the residents.
On Thursday, students in Government High School, Amloh road (Khanna); School of Eminence Khanna, BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School among others schools formed human chains in their respective schools and encouraged the residents to step out of their houses and exercise their 'Right to Vote' on June 1, 2024.
Paper reading competition, debate, quiz among other awareness activities were held in Tagore Public School, Aggar Nagar; Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar; Guru Nanak International Public School etc. An awareness rally was also organised by students of Sant Kartar Singh Kamaliawale, Salem Tabri.
Apart from this, voter awareness and voter registration camps were held in different areas of Ludhiana South, Ludhiana West, Sahnewal, Gill among other areas. These activities are being organised to encourage voters under Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program.
While the registered voters are being urged to vote, the eligible residents who are yet to register themselves are being appealed to get themselves enrolled as voters.
The eligible residents can use 'Voter Helpline' mobile application and National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) for enrolling themselves as voters. The residents can also visit www.nvsp.in to register themselves as voters. The residents can enrol themselves as voters by May 4, 2024.
District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney said that voter awareness and registration camps are being regularly organised in the district under SVEEP program. The aim of district administration is to ensure maximum participation during the Lok Sabha-2024 elections and to achieve the target of more than 70 per cent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections (Iss Baar, 70 Paar).
She appealed the residents to step out and cast their vote on the polling day (June 1) for a stronger democracy, which will also help in building a better future for the coming generations. She said that the administration is making all efforts to facilitate the voters including the persons with disabilities (PWD) at the polling stations, so that they can comfortably cast their votes.
