Promotes 1098 Child Helpline & Reviews RO Drinking Water Facilities

The Vice Chairperson, Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (PSCPC), Ms. Gunjeet Ruchi Bawa, visited two government schools in Ludhiana South — SOE GSSS Miller Ganj, Dholewal Chowk, and GHS Kot Mangal Singh at Khud Mohalla — on the occasion of the Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) organized by the Department of School Education, Punjab. The visit aimed at strengthening engagement between parents, teachers and school authorities while promoting child rights awareness and holistic student development.

During her visit, Ms. Gunjeet Ruchi Bawa interacted with school toppers, parents, members of the School Management Committee (SMC) and principals of both institutions. She appreciated the efforts of students who excelled academically and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. She also emphasized the importance of active parental involvement in shaping a child’s academic and personal growth.

The Vice Chairperson held discussions with parents and teachers on ensuring a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for children. She highlighted the need for greater awareness about child rights and the collective responsibility of stakeholders in safeguarding students’ well-being. Concerns related to students’ emotional health, academic pressure and overall development were also addressed during the interactive session.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Gunjeet Ruchi Bawa said, “Mega PTMs are an excellent platform to build strong partnerships between parents and schools. When families and educators work together, children receive better guidance, emotional support and opportunities for holistic development. It is our collective duty to ensure that every child learns in a safe, nurturing and encouraging environment.”

She also emphasized that students and parents should make use of the Child Helpline number 1098 to report any grievances or concerns. She further reviewed the RO drinking water system in the schools and inspected facilities to ensure safe and hygienic conditions for students. She stated that timely reporting through the helpline helps authorities ensure quick intervention and resolution for the welfare and safety of children.

School authorities welcomed the initiative and appreciated the Commission’s efforts to directly engage with stakeholders and reinforce the importance of child-centric education.
