Sas Nagar Police, In Joint Operation With Agtf Punjab, Arrest Key Operative Of Foreign-based Gangsters

May1,2026 | Gurvinder Singh Mohali | Sas Nagar

In a major breakthrough under the ongoing drive against organised crime in Punjab, SAS Nagar Police, in a joint operation with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Punjab, has arrested a key operative linked to foreign-based gangsters and recovered a .32 calibre pistol along with five live cartridges.

Divulging details, SSP SAS Nagar, Sh. Harmandeep Singh Hans, said that the arrest is a follow-up to the April 18 joint operation of SAS Nagar Police and AGTF, during which a gangster module was busted with the arrest of four accused and recovery of two foreign-made pistols.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ajay, a resident of Mouli Jagran, Chandigarh.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was acting under the directions of foreign-based handlers and had been assigned multiple targets across the Tricity. His timely arrest has averted potentially serious criminal activities in the region.

The SSP further stated that during the investigation, based on forward and backward linkages, Ajay’s role came to light. He had allegedly supplied weapons to the previously arrested accused and provided logistical support as per the directions of his handlers abroad.

Acting on this intelligence, joint teams of SAS Nagar Police and AGTF, under the supervision of SP Rural Manpreet Singh and SP Dera Bassi Bikramjit Singh Brar, and led by Inspector Sumit Mor (SHO Dera Bassi) and Inspector Pushvinder Singh, traced and arrested the accused from under the Ghaggar bridge near Mubarkpur, Dera Bassi.

During the operation, the accused attempted to flee and sustained a leg fracture.

Further interrogation has revealed that he had been working for foreign-based handlers for the past one year.

The accused has been arrested in FIR No. 0162 dated 18.04.2026, registered at Police Station Dera Bassi under Sections 111, 3(5) of the BNS and Sections 25(6), 25(7)(i) of the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway.
