In compliance with the directives of higher authorities, excise checkpoints were set up across the district starting from March 23, 2025, to curb the illegal movement of liquor across state and district boundaries ahead of the financial year-end. In a major crackdown on illegal liquor trade, Ludhiana East Range authorities, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Excise Dr. Shivani Gupta, led a successful operation. The team, spearheaded by Excise Officers Amit Goyal and Ashok Kumar,& team of E.I's Sh. Brajesh Malhotra , Navdeep Singh, Vikram Bhatia and Vijay Kumar with Khanna Police, seized a large quantity of liquor being transferred within the state without the required permit and pass in vehicle no PB07AS3551. The recovery includes: 404 cases of PML Marka Green Vodka 608 cases of PML Marka First Choice/Club 140 cases of PML Marka Punjab Jugni 110 cases of PML Marka Jugni Apple Vodka 300 loose bottles of PML liquor 30 cases of Budweiser Magnum beer The total seizure stands at 1,262 cases of PML liquor and 300 loose bottles, along with 30 cases of beer. The seized liquor carries Track and Trace barcodes and holograms, indicating it was meant for sale exclusively in Punjab. The operation was carried out within Punjab’s jurisdiction by Ludhiana East Range officers, acting swiftly on intelligence inputs. The contraband was reportedly being transported for illegal distribution within the state. Following the seizure, an FIR (No. 55, dated April 1, 2025) has been registered at Police Station Khanna City-2 against the accused, Manohar Lal, son of Sh. Dev Raj, resident of Bangana, Una (H.P.). Authorities are conducting further investigations to trace the source and intended destination of the illegal consignment. Further legal proceedings are underway, and officials have assured that stringent action will be taken against those involved in the illegal liquor trade.
