The District Administration Ludhiana today launched the pilot phase of the District Volunteering Program, aimed at creating a structured framework for student volunteering, internships and experiential learning in alignment with NEP 2020, NAAC, NIRF, CBSE and relevant Government of Punjab initiatives.
The initiative was introduced during a workshop attended by over 100 faculty members from schools and colleges across Ludhiana district. Two programs—Arth Kranti and Daan Utsav Ambassador—will be undertaken in the pilot phase.
Arth Kranti – 60-Hour Financial Literacy Internship
Arth Kranti, a 60-hour Financial Literacy Internship Program, has been designed by Sh. Amber Bandopadhyay, DDPO, Ludhiana. Under the program, participating institutions will nominate senior secondary students who will be trained as Financial Literacy Trainers and Coordinators.
These trained students will subsequently conduct a six-week Financial Literacy Program in more than 150 Government schools across Ludhiana district, taking financial awareness and practical money-management concepts to school students.
CityNeeds has been appointed as the Implementation Partner to provide the LMS, course content, admission process, student tracking and overall coordination framework. Do Good Foundation and Initiators of Change are the NGO partners who will coordinate with participating institutions, manage rosters and provide supervisors for field implementation.
Students successfully completing the prescribed 60-hour internship will be certified by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana.
Addressing the institutions, Sh. Himanshu Jain, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, called upon schools and colleges to support the initiative by nominating suitable students who can be trained to impart financial literacy in Government schools.
Daan Utsav Ambassador – 30-Hour Volunteering Program
The second pilot, Daan Utsav Ambassador, is a structured 30-hour volunteering program certified by Municipal Corporation Ludhiana and implemented by CityNeeds, which has been conducting Daan Utsav in Ludhiana for the past five years.
Sh. Jasdev Sekhon, Assistant Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, informed participants that the Municipal Corporation has allocated four RRR Centres across the city where material collected during Daan Utsav can be systematically received, segregated, stored and distributed.
Ms. Dimple Madan, District Education Officer, encouraged schools to participate and highlighted the importance of community engagement, experiential learning and structured internships under NEP 2020 and emerging academic frameworks.
Based on the outcomes of these two pilot programs, the District Administration will consider introducing further volunteering programs and engaging subject matter experts from educational institutions and other organisations, wherever required.
The District Volunteering Program seeks to bring educational institutions, students, NGOs and experts onto a common framework, making volunteering more structured, measurable and meaningful while connecting young people with real community needs.
