After Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Patiala, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now elected its mayor in Phagwara Municipal Corporation as well. AAP’s Rampal Uppal has been elected as the new Mayor of Phagwara. Meanwhile, Tejpal Basra has been elected as the Senior Deputy Mayor, and Vipan Krishna as the Deputy Mayor.

AAP Punjab President Aman Arora congratulated all the newly elected office bearers and said that the councilors prioritised Phagwara’s development above party politics by electing an AAP mayor.

Following the election of AAP’s mayor, Aman Arora addressed a press conference in Phagwara along with the party’s MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Dr Sunny Ahluwalia and other leaders. He thanked the party’s top leadership, local leaders, and workers, stating that this historic victory was the result of the hard work of party workers.

Arora mentioned that in the recently held elections for 46 municipal corporations, councils, and panchayats, AAP secured a clear majority in 41 places, and even in other places, councilors elected an AAP mayor for their city’s development.

He further said that the Phagwara mayoral election was conducted based on the guidelines of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The election was overseen by retired Justice Harbans Lal. Earlier, during the Amritsar mayoral elections, the Congress party created a lot of commotion and drama, but the High Court dismissed their appeal. The Congress party is facing defeat across Punjab, which is troubling them.

Addressing the people of Phagwara, Arora said, “I want to assure the people of Phagwara that now it is our responsibility to prioritize the development of Phagwara above party politics. I also appeal to councilors from opposition parties not to feel disheartened thinking that their party’s mayor is not in power. You can bring your issues to our mayor, and he will resolve them as well. We believe in inclusive development.”

Arora added that the five guarantees promised to the people of Phagwara during the elections will be implemented starting tomorrow. Additionally, all stalled projects will also be completed on a priority basis. “We are committed to the development of Phagwara,” he said.
