Jun28,2026 | Jagrati Lahar Bureau | Ludhiana

The National Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign was launched with great enthusiasm across Ludhiana district today. Civil Surgeon Ludhiana Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, along with District Immunization Officer Dr. Harpreet Singh, inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to children at Civil Hospital, Ludhiana. On the very first day of the campaign, approximately 1,01,571 children up to five years of age were administered life-saving polio drops across the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur said that ensuring every child receives the two life-saving drops of the oral polio vaccine is the Health Department's highest priority. She emphasized that every child up to five years of age must be given polio drops, even if the child has already received doses under the Routine Immunization Programme. She appealed to all parents to extend full cooperation to the health teams conducting house-to-house visits so that no eligible child is left uncovered during the campaign.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Harpreet Singh informed that following the booth activity, Health Department teams will carry out intensive house-to-house visits to administer polio drops to children who could not reach the booths for any reason. He said that the department is committed to reaching every eligible child in the district and ensuring 100 percent coverage.
Dr. Ramandeep Kaur appreciated the dedicated efforts of vaccination teams, supervisors, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, volunteers and officials from various departments who have been working tirelessly to make the campaign a success. She also thanked parents for their active participation and cooperation in bringing their children for immunization.
She further stated that the house-to-house campaign will continue over the coming days in rural, urban and peri-urban areas to ensure that no eligible child is deprived of protection against polio. The Health Department once again appealed to all parents and guardians to cooperate with health teams and contribute towards maintaining Ludhiana's and India's polio-free status.
"Two drops of life—ensuring a safe and healthy future for every child."
