Alumni Association SCD Govt College, Ludhiana mourned the demise on Sept.22 of one of its illustrious alumnus K S Bains IAS who had been a student of the college in the late 1950s. Bains, besides having remained DC Amritsar and Rupnagar also served as Education Secretary. Those Alumni who condoled his death include V K Sibal IAS (retd.),Shivdular Singh Dhillon IAS Red, MP Arora IAS Retd., Amarjit Singh Sandhu, K B Singh (DGM PNB Retd.), Principal Ashok Kapoor, Surjit Bhagat IRS Retd., Prof P K Sharma, Prof IPSetia and Brij Bhushan Goyal ,Organising Sec of Alumni Association of the college. Sibbal informed that Bains was a junior to him in this college in the 1950s and proved an intelligent upright officer of Punjab. Shivdular termed the death as another loss to the Alumni fraternity in death of another stalwart. Amarjit Singh Sandhu An Alumnus and Ex Executive NIS Patiala recalled his interaction as a student with Bains when he was education secretary and told how passionate he was about students causes like cheap bus,train passes,note-books and cheap rations in the hostels. Goyal, An Alumni spokesman,while informing about his death, informed that Bains also remained a former Chairman Of Punjab & Sind Bank,Vice-Chairman DDA Delhi ,a former chairman of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Trust besides also Punjab Basketball president from 1978-1991. Goyal, suggested frequent interactions of illustrious Alumni for inspirations with the new gen of the college. Principal Dr. (Prof) Tanveer Likhari and many other teachers also condoled Bainss demise.
