In a decisive move to eradicate the drug menace from the city, the Ludhiana Police conducted a massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) across several sensitive localities today. The operation was carried out as a primary component of the ongoing "Yudh Nashian Virudh" (War Against Drugs) campaign launched by the Punjab Government.
The search operation focused on a cluster of four municipal wards, specifically targeting high-interest areas including:
* Himmat Singh Nagar
* Dr. Ambedkar Nagar
* Manohar Nagar
* jawahar Nagar
Demonstrating a high level of operational readiness, the maneuver was executed by a specialized task force of 200 police personnel. The operation was led by DCP Investigation and supervised by 9 Gazetted Officers of ADCP and ACP ranks. 16 Station House Officers (SHOs) of different zones supported by the Crime Wing and field force were involved in the CASO.
To ensure a comprehensive sweep, the Ludhiana Police established multiple Nakabandis (checkpoints) at all entry and exit points of the targeted wards to prevent any movement of contraband during the raid were set up at 5 AM. Concurrently, teams conducted meticulous searches of targeted residential properties and suspected hideouts based on intelligence inputs from 6 AM to 10 AM.
Briefing the media on the outcome of the operation, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Swapan Sharma, emphasized the department's "zero-tolerance" policy regarding narcotics.
He informed that the Police apprehended 19 accused and recovered 159 grams of Heroin, 2 kg of Ganja, 72 bottles of liquor, 75 intoxicant tablets, 1 lac 37 thousand in unexplained cash and 1 activa scooter. The police also took preventive action against 4 accused involved in criminal activities.
"Our objective is clear: to break the supply chain of drugs and ensure a safer environment for our citizens. Operations like CASO are not just about enforcement, but also about sending a strong message that illegal activities will have no room in Ludhiana. The 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign will continue to intensify in the coming weeks," said CP Sharma.
